After spending there four full weeks, I’ve found Wahaha Japanese Language School to be well suited to my needs and of a very high standard in general.
The proof of this is that several students were on their second or third language stay, often in private lessons after having taken a group course.
The reasons for this, in my opinion, are teaching in small groups where no one is lost in the crowd. In my case, there were between two and five students, depending on the week or day.
Another reason is the flexibility of enrolling on a date and for a period of one’s choice.
Finally, the teachers proved to be enthusiastic and well-trained, using a good textbook, the Quartet series, but also developing more free-form subjects. They cater for a largely Western audience of different ages, who are not looking for a specific academic qualification such as passing an exam.
In terms of organisation, the administrative staff have proved to be dedicated and inventive, offering extra-curricular activities and outings. In my case, I even received a lot of help in preparing the tourist part of my trip to Kyushu.
In conclusion, I would recommend this school and was very satisfied.
Fukuoka isn’t a city with the historic wealth of Kyoto and others, but it’s a pleasant and easy place to live, with lots of things to do in a fairly small area.
